Get the least car that will serve your needs. There is a
huge premium to be paid for such vehicles as SUVs, minivans and the like.
Unless you absolutely must have such a rental vehicle, save the money and
get a sedan.
When renting at the airport, check "off-site" facilities. There
frequently is a noticeable savings when you spend the time to take the
shuttle bus to the facility rather than having the rental car available
right at the airport. It may take a few minutes longer but may save you a
considerable amount.
Know the specifics on damage waivers. Do not simply assume that your
credit card carrier will cover the costs of repairs if you decline the
rental car company's insurance coverage. Read the fine print! Many credit
card coverage plans do not apply to certain types of vehicles and may not
be applicable in some locations. If you have any doubts, take the
insurance - you can be held responsible for the full amount of any damage
done to the rental car while it is in your possession. |
